YOGI- A forgettable fare

YOGI- A WASTE OF RAW FILM

What happens when one of the most successful Director’s of the current genre, one of the most promising/ dashing hero, and producers for whom budget is no constrain come together? Logically it should result in at least an above average fare if not a block buster.

Cinema critics, guys across the industry, keep on parroting that story is the life line of a movie and the presentation is the oxygen. Even VV Vinayak, the director of this movie, had proclaimed in one of his recent interviews that his strength lies in understanding the deep psyche of the common man, his focus is on the subjects which stir the heart with strong human emotions. But alas, when it comes to the actual act of film making all the commitments and pronouncements are happily thrown to the winds and the film makers go back to the school of formulae based film making. One of the easiest formulae is that of borrowing a whole film from some other language (remake). God only knows, how Jogi (the Kannada version of Yogi) was such a big hit in Kannada.

Apart from the quintessential hero, the only other thing which hogs the silver screen in each of the frame is a blood soaked sword. Even the heroine is relegated to a poor fourth or fifth position in terms of footage allocated. After watching the recent releases..Raakhi, Annavaram and Yogi, one starts to get a feeling, if there is a censoring mechanism alive and available in the country. The Telugu films in recent times are getting gory by the day and have been successful in alienating a section of the audience permanently from the theatres.

The story of an innocent young man dragged into crime has been told n number of times, with only a change in the lead cast or the back drop. Yogi is no exception. Prabhas is slowly evolving as an angry young man. His tall and well built frame, the youthful energy pump life into such revengeful melodramas. He is a “Lambi Res ka Ghoda”.. No doubt!!..but..if and only if he is more choosy about the roles and the script in future.

A humble request to MR Vinayak… Vinayakgaru!!! Please spare us from this kind of mindless bloodbath in the future. You are such a fine technician and please live upto the initial promise shown! For the films like Yogi, we do not need a director of your caliber.. even a stunt director can handle such fares.
